Hate Map: An Interactive Study of Hate Crimes in the U.S.

In 1990, the United States Congress passed the Hate Crime Statistics Act, which required the federal government to track hate crimes across the U.S. This map visualizes rates of total hate crimes (1991-2023) across the 50 states and District of Columbia, adjusted for 2020 population. The drop-down allows for studying hate crimes against specific populations, and clicking on a state will reveal more information below the map.
